Family vs. Nature, Continues...

Well, it looks like Grace and the family are back on the homestead. I still haven’t been able to get through, but Mom keeps me updated. They are back in the house. There is no power, but Danny was going to get a generator. A tree hit the house and guess there was some damage, since they are all sleeping in one room, but it sounds like things are pretty good, all things considering.

Back in Cali, things are heating up. My brother Tirion and his family were forced to evacuate their house in Agoura Hills because of the approaching Wild Fires.

This has not been a good month for the family.

God willing, and the creek don’t rise (A Mom saying), October will be better…

Grace vs. Rita

I got a call from my Mom just now, and my sister Grace and her family are back at home. They stayed in a hotel in Arkansas for a couple of days. From what could make out from Grace’s bad cell phone connection, the house is alright. A tree fell on it, but we don’t know if it was a big tree or not. There is no electricity and Danny was off today to go find a generator.

It looks like all is going to be well.

            Thank God…

Grace vs. Rita Update

So it looks like Grace is opting out of driving thru the giant Gridlock that is Texas. Turns out, her husband Danny has a daughter in either Arkansas or Pennsylvania (I’m getting these things Second and Third Hand). From what Mom told me just an hour and a half ago, they still hadn’t left the house. Apparently, she’s worried that she won’t have a house to come back to.

            I’m worried I won’t have a sister to worry about anymore…

My Niece Jessica

No, I didn’t forget about her. She’s going off with her Boyfriend and his family. At this point I don’t know where they’re headed…

Hitting Home

As Hurricane Rita (recently called the third most powerful storm on record) heads for the Texas Coast, my Sister Grace and her family are bugging out. They live in Starks, Louisiana which is a stones throw from the Texas border and not all that far Galveston (Where Rita is supposed to make landfall).

So Grace, her husband Danny, my niece Cassandra, my niece Jasmine and her daughter, Paige, are all heading to Lake Havasu City, Arizona where my little Sis Becky lives with her husband George, their boys Michael & Joseph and our Mother.

It’s gonna be a long haul to get there, and a tight squeeze in the house once they do.

It’s Becky’s Birthday on Monday and the twins birthday tomorrow. I think I’m gonna send them some money (what little I have).

Please wish them well and to those of you who pray, say a word or two for them.

ARRRR!

I hung a full size Pirate Flag in my cubicle today and everybody is asking me what team I support, Buccaneers or Pirates.

What the Hell is wrong with people?

And another thing...

ARRRRR!!!!!

Ye Scurvy dogs!

Bring me my Wenches!!!

Random Observation of the Morning

Is it just me, or do you find it strange when you see people riding their bikes down the street, while smoking a cigarette? I find it unfathomable.

Kanye West?

Ok, this is not me being pithy or clever or anything, but me asking an honest question:
Who the Hell is Kanye West, and why am I supposed to care about what he thinks???
I'm serious!
As you might know, I don't watch TV. No cable. No antennae. I watch DVDs if I watch anything. No MTV. No Entertainment Tonight. If I want news, I listen to NPR or check CNN.com (ok, and FARK). I listen to Indie 103 & KROQ.

Suddenly, it seems, everybody wants me to care about what this guy is saying. Why?

I saw this on FARK today:

WEST REVEALS RACIAL LINES IN SLANG USE

Hip-hop star KANYE WEST is advising his white counterparts that they can only use certain slang terms when they're out of style for black people.

The JESUS WALKS rapper - who recently charged that US President GEORGE W BUSH "doesn't care" about African Americans - believes that certain slang words should only be able to cross racial barriers when they're no longer in style for black people.

He says, "I think white people are allowed to say 'bling'. They are allowed to say old-school black slang, like 'hottie' and 'homie'.

"Actually, I do not think that (white people) are allowed to use slang until it is at least a year old. If you say a slang word too early, it's like you're trying to be black. So as long as the slang is a little played out, you're all good."

First off, Bush cares about Black People if they are millionaires. He only sees green. Whatever...

MY problem is somebody telling me how I'm ALLOWED to talk. (Frankly, I think ANYBODY who uses phrases like 'Bling' and crap like that sounds like an idiot. You don't sound cool. You don't sound ironic. You sound like a moron...)

I guess I’ve cut myself off from Pop culture lately, and let me tell you something, even though I rarely know what people are talking about anymore, I feel like the smartest guy in the room.

I've been told lately that I've become a "TV Snob", because I won't just sit there and watch whatever is on. Um, yeah! My time is precious. Someday, I'll be dead. I'm tired of going to visit friends and having the Television on THE ENTIRE TIME!

Holy Shit! Whatever happened to conversation? This was supposed to a post about this music guy I don't know. It seems to have gone astray, but I feel better...

What do you think?

WTF?

I took down her pictures. I took off the ring.

…and I still have people coming into my cubicle asking when we’re having kids!

Lord Help Me…

Update

I think I’ve turned a corner.

I can now listen to Dashboard Confessionals without wanting to slash my wrists.

That’s got to be a good sign…

Thank you, my Angel

I think you may have saved my life last night. God Knows what I would have done, if I had even lived long enough to get there. You brought me from the place of Psychotic Rage & Sorrow I was at to something close to peace. I don’t know what is next, but at least I know…

            …what I know.
